We love strawberries. We love birds. We don’t love when the birds eat our strawberries. And we need your help to save our strawberries this season.
To be honest, last year, the birds won. It is amazing that they know when a strawberry is perfectly ripe. Their favorite activity seems to be taking just a little nibble out of each one. This year, we are hoping to protect our precious strawberry crop better so we can all enjoy strawberry season together.
While we have some flashy bird deterrent tape that flows in the wind, we’re hoping to employ another strawberry protection technique to double down: strawberry rocks! The plan is to paint some rocks to look like strawberries and lay them out in our strawberry patch. Then when a bird inevitably tries to eat a strawberry rock, they’ll realize it is not food and fly away, allowing us to share our precious strawberries this season with you all.
Stop by our farm stand this Saturday, June 14th, anytime between 10 am and 3 pm to help paint some rocks. We can’t wait to see you there!
